There seems to be very little useful information about the variations of the PB4 hardware and software online. If anyone has anything else to add please do. Loud classical like music on the configuration screen
No annoying music on the menu (unlike the 60 in 1) Will not boot with only +5 connected, also needs +12 otherwise 2 LEDs dont turn on and game doesn't boot. Need 4 buttons just to complete configuration screen (OK/Cancel are BTN 3/4) Next batches are basically: Sports, Cars, Tetris/Ball color matching, 60-in-1 carry over classics
First 400+ are basically Mortal Kombat stadium fighters or side scrolling Double Dragon fighters (Metal Slug is early in that batch-less a fighter and more a side scroll shooter) Most of the games are "somewhat" grouped. One had a different font for some reason, and then another one said one game but was actually Ladybug instead. Cost was just over $55 delivered to the US (in under 2 weeks) You can't have both, it determines at boot which one to use. It puts out a nice CGA signal over the Jamma connector -OR- a VGA signal over the HD15 connector. The placement of the connectors on this is different than the 'official' PB4 but the same as the other bootlegs of the PB4. The 'cartridge' I got (ordered 8/2, arrived 8/17, PCB date code: 2916 (last week of July) so was just manufactured. There is no software configuration setting for volume, only the hardware knob. Volume knob on side of board affects both JAMMA speaker as well as the headphone jack on the cartridge. I am NOT an expert outside of classics but was good enough for a novice experience so far but admittedly I only played about 10 games so far. Games seem to run well in the sampling I did of few 90s games I actually like. Also pin e/27 (second to last) is BTN 6 (with 5/4 just before it on the normally unused ones) and cannot be grounded so you have to modify your harness or buy one of the adapters. Input ground ONLY is pin f/28 (the last set). Power ground is A/B-1/2 on the JAMMA connector. As with most of these boards, input ground is NOT the same as power ground. Coin input is not debounced (no cap on it) so pressing it gives a random number of credits. A constant background random CPU interaction sound makes it to the speaker in the menu. A more annoying screech click occurs when paging left or right through the menu A low click sound occurs when moving up or down the menu

The instructions included the real PB4 manual (with the mispellings on the screen shots) Here are the details I have after trying it out for a few games and walking all menu items: No dumb "Enjoy life with quality" statement or the mispelled version "Enjoy lift with quality" on the splash screen like a real PB4 You can play a game just 9 seconds after power on!) The game boots to a splash screen in 7 seconds, and then to the game selection menu after only an additional 2 seconds. There are no spelling errors on the configuration screen (SELECT instead of SLELECT on some PB4 versions) obnoxiously bright green of the regular PB4 The color / theme is a space theme with muted blue grey and teal green colors vs. Saw a new 'version' called "Hereos of the Storm II", and found one for about half the price of the supposedly original official version.Īfter watching numerous PB4 videos, here is what I noted was different after trying this alternate version that really isn't documented anywhere:
